Film Review ‘The Adam Project’: Getting angry is easy, so people don’t get sad anymore, they just get angry. This time travel film “The Adam Project”, which tells the reality of today’s time with a wonderful line, is an excellent film, which, despite its shortcomings, despite its almost clichéd story, completely captivates the viewers. Keeps it in its grip. Recently released on Netflix, both children and adults can watch this film, if they ignore some English slang. The film is funny. Technical flaws are visible in many places and despite all this, it entertains the audience a lot.

In 2050, a troubled fighter pilot Adam (Ryan Reynolds) wants to travel to 2018 in the time travel jet built by his father (Louis Reid Mark Ruffalo) because his fighter pilot wife Laura (Zoe Saldana) is also a time traveller. While traveling, she disappeared there. Due to a technical fault, Adam reaches 2022 where he meets. By myself, that is, by my 12-year-old avatar (Walker Scobel). Adam’s father has died in 2021 and Walker has not recovered from this shock yet and his mother (Jennifer Garner) also does not understand how to deal with Walker.

While searching for Ryan, his enemies arrive in 2022 and attack him, but Lara saves Adam’s life by reaching there at the last moment. Adam wants to meet his father in his younger form, so he time travels again to meet his father and tells him that his invention of time travel has been successful, but his partner, Maya Sorian (Catherine Keener), has discovered this technology. Has captured and she is preparing to become the most powerful woman in the future. Louis Reed, Adam Reed from 2050 and Adam Reed from 2012 together defeat Maya and destroy the time travel machine.

Many films and television serials have been made on time travel around the world. HG Wells’s 1895 short story “The Time Machine” is considered the source of all such stories, but the earliest mention of time travel was in Samuel Madden’s 1773 story Memoirs of the Twentieth Century. Time travel has been put to good use in The Adam Project. The film is so funny that something or the other keeps happening on the screen all the time which keeps the audience hooked.

Ryan Reynolds is a successful actor of today’s era. He has gained immense popularity because of playing the character named Deadpool. His wife Blake Lively is also a very successful actress and the pair of both is very much liked all over Hollywood. Ryan’s dialogue delivery was well received in Deadpool and the same formula has been used in The Adam Project. Walker has created a storm in the role of 12-year-old Ryan. This is Walker’s first film and what an amazing performance.

Struggling with the pain of his father’s death and angry with his mother, Walker continues to resent Ryan when he meets his future self. The cheeky dialogues have brought fun in the mutual conversation between Ryan and Walker. Ryan finds it very strange to see that Walker is a very lonely, grumpy and nonsense guy. Future Ryan keeps on giving his past walker advice on how to be a better person. The scene in which Ryan and Walker meet their father, Mark Ruffalo, is also fantastic. Here too the dialogues made the scene memorable. Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner’s roles were small and precise. The film is based on the chemistry between Ryan, Walker and Mark. Director Shawn Levy has made a completely funny film on a very balanced script.

Action sequences can seem a bit boring because there is absolutely comic book type action. Stunt coordinator James Churchman must have had a problem with which of the future tense, past tense and present tense to make the action sequences. Maya’s character was made good as a villain, but with the help of computer graphics, a lot of fun is being made on the social media about her changing face. The writing of the film or the scale of the film is not such that the juice comes like Star War or Star Trek, nor is the focus on sensitivity like Interstellar or Gravity.

It is possible that after a year or two the audience may forget The Adam Project, but till the time you are watching the film, the fun continues. Started working on the script written by TS Nowlin in October 2012 and talks were held with Tom Cruise as the hero. Work on the script went on for several months but nothing was happening. In July 2020, Netflix decided to join the production of the film and Shawn Levy was signed as director and Ryan Reynolds as hero. Sean and Ryan had previously done another hit comedy together – Free Guy. After the success of The Adam Project, now Ryan and Sean will work together once again in Deadpool 3. Netflix fans know Sean better as the director of Stranger Things.

Full of laughter, smiles, tickles and cheeky dialogues, The Adam Project is a must watch because life is not always serious.
